Idaho Oregon Buddhist Temple is having its 70th Japan Nite/Obon Festival on Saturday, June 25th in Ontario, Oregon. There will be having short presentations in the altar area—temple history, an overview of the altar and symbolism of the items in the altar, and Buddhist fundamentals.
There will also be food and Obon dancing. Obon is a time when we remember those who came before us and made our lives possible. The dancing is a way to step away from your ego self and dance for joy. The dances have simple repetitive patterns so you can just follow along and join in, or just make up your own steps!
