Zen Helps You Center

A Zen meditation retreat offers a unique opportunity for deep relaxation and mental clarity. By immersing yourself in a structured, quiet environment, you can disconnect from the distractions of everyday life and focus on what matters most: this moment.

Zen meditation in the Kwan Um (Korean) tradition centers on seated meditation, which helps cultivate mindfulness and self-awareness. This can lead to reduced stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue. What better way to end this year and prepare for the next year than to focus inward for one day and let go of those things that no longer help you.

The retreat will be led by famed Zen Master Bon Soeng (Jeff Kitzes), pictured above.

Zen Master Bon Soeng said about Zen practice, “Zen teaches us that attachment to our thinking is the root of our suffering. Much of our lives, we are stuck in and act out of rigid and repeating patterns of thoughts and feelings. So, finding simple ways to interrupt these patterns, even for a moment, can be very helpful.”

Zen Master Bon Soeng was taught Zen by Zen Master Seung Sahn, who brought the Kwan Um form of Korean Zen to the United States.

The retreat is sponsored by the Empty Gate Zen Center in Berkeley, California, which has a related group in Boise.
